Vance Vaughan

Just photos of my Dad, to remember him by.

The brick house is the house in Malad where my father was raised. (I spent part of my childhood living there too, when my mother went to Hawaii during WWII, leaving me with my Grandmother Vaughan.)

Helen and Ada are Vance's sisters.

The Phillipines picture was supplied by Harley Higgins, a friend of Vance's. The picture was taken in 1966. Harley is first on the left in the picture. He provided the Vance XMAS 66 picture too.

Hiroko is Vance's widow. They were courting on a trip to Japan. They were married for 35 years.

In 1972, Vance and Hiroko traveled in the mainland for the last time. They spent some time in Berkeley with me and made it to Malad for the photos of Vance, GV, Helen, and Hiroko.

In '75, I took a picture of the castle under construction. Vance is barely visible.

In '79, there was a family gathering in Hawaii. RC (Kerrie's husband), Liz, Amir, Sam, David (Jacqui's husband), Kerrie (my sister) and her son Seth, Jacqui (my sister), Vance Sr., yrs truly, and Hiroko. Jeri must be taking the picture. The "grandkid" must be Seth.

In 2001, there was the great koa tree trimming project. Vance climbed the tree, I helped for part of the project from the ground.

In April of 2002, I went to Hawaii to help Vance with a cabling project. He was having dizzy spells, but doing OK.

In June 2003, I went to Hawaii to see how things were going. Vance was frail, scarcely going out of the house. The Vance,Vance picture is one I shot at arm's length. He looks pretty checked out. On August 29, he did checkout...
