Probably the high point of my intellectual accomplishment was my
n-body integration program. I did it in fortran on Cunningham's
nickel. It was purely newtonian. Didn't take relativity into
account. I didn't know how to include relativity. I don't know
if Cunningham did either. We integrated comet orbits. I integrated
the partial derivatives of the observation residuals with respect
to the starting conditions which allowed me to do a least-squares
fit to improve the starting conditions. I don't even know what
that means anymore...
The program didn't work very well for sun-grazing comets where the
relativity effects were pronounced.
I did this in approximately 1969.
