Tovey snippets Edwin (Ned) Tovey - my maternal grandfather. His son, Keith Tovey, said that "Ned did quite a bit of boxing." Jacqui asked if the matches were with people in town (Malad, St John), and Keith said, "Oh, no, they'd come from all over." He boxed both with bare knuckles and brass knuckles. I don't know what the deciding factor was or who has the brass knuckles now. Ned Tovey's first wife was Florabel Owens Daniels. They were married in 1915 and she died in 1917. They had two children: Keith and Florabel. Ned later married Doshia Jones and had one child with her, Rees. Ned died in 1928 as a result of a driving accident during the construction of the Elkhorn dam. The Tovey brothers sang at funerals and major get-togethers. Keith Tovey's sister, Florabel, called him Brawd on good days (Welsh for brother), but also called him "Nickel Nose" and said that he was so tight that he screwed his socks on in the morning.
