Hiroko was my step-mom.
I visited her many times in Honolulu.
She passed away on September 18, 2024.
Obituary
Family tree
She was a great Hawai'ian quilter.
And she also did flower arranging and pottery.
Hiroko was always quiet and unassuming.
But she was tough.
In her latter years when she was in care at Hale Ola Kino
she looked forward to marching up and down the hallway
accompanied by two aides.
And she looked forward to bingo!
Towards the end she lapsed into a comatose state.
When we visited her in August she was largely unresponsive.
But on the third visit she squeezed my hand and looked me in the eye.
I felt it was a good parting...
